A weak bladder is a serious condition that affects millions of adults. You generally know you have an overactive bladder if you have the sudden urge to urinate. This is also called urinary incontinence because you are basically experiencing the unintentional loss of urine.
Involuntary muscle contractions or muscle spasms mainly contribute to having a weak bladder and the need to immediately discharge urine. The key muscle in urinal discharge is called detrusor urinae. On average, before the detrusor signals the brain to induce urination, the adult bladder can hold as much as one-sixth liter of urine. With a weak bladder, however, urinating can happen with just as much as a third of a liter of urine currently held up in the bladder, making the detrusor contract prematurely. Additional factors contributing to a weak bladder include infection in the urinary tract, the presence of tumor in the bladder, dementia, among others.
Indications of Weak Bladder Sudden need to urinate Urinating in shorter periods Waking up because of the need to urinate (nocturia)
Overactive Bladder Treatment Don't start thinking and worrying of having to wear adult diapers if you have weak bladder. That is not the case here. A better treatment with long-lasting results for weak bladder cases is called kegel exercise. Essentially it is the same as how you contract and relax urinary muscles in order to hold your urine and stopping the flow. A set of 80 counts for contracting then relaxing the urinary muscles every day for 2 months can work wonders for incontinent individuals.
A more permanent solution to a weak bladder is learning how to control urinary muscle contraction. Such training is called kegel exercise. The exercise involves contracting and relaxing urinary muscles to withhold or withdraw urine, just as how you would stop or allow the acid to flow when urinating. The exercise is repeatedly done 80 times daily for two months. After then the bladder will be back in good condition.
Restricting the urinary muscles to dispense urine only during set periods is another method to train the bladder. Initially, you must attempt to urinate only once per hour. As soon as the bladder has adjusted the time between urinations is gradually increased until the bladder won't prematurely dispense urine any longer. You are not the only one being afflicted by a weak bladder. Many adults also suffer from the same condition and have succeeded in treating their bladder. Consult a physician now.
